CHURCHES:

SLOUGH CREEK

The first Primitive Baptist Church in Kansas Territory of which we have found any record was called Slough Creek. This church was organized sometime prior to August 1857, and its first pastor was Elder Terry Trapp. The date of its constitution has not been discovered, but this church assisted in the organization of Pleasant Grove Church.

PLEASANT GROVE

Pleasant Grove Church was organized on the second Saturday in August, 1857, with nine members, viz., Alexander M. Townsend, M. E. Townsend, H. C. Martin, Henry A. Martin, S. M. Hail, Permelia Hail, A. Sparks, Sarah E. Sparks, and Nancy Jones. The presbytery was composed of Elders William F. Jones and Terry Trapp. Immediately following the constitution, Elder Jones united with the church by letter. Sister Artilda Bunell united with the church the next day.
