CHURCHES:

MT. TABOR (ORIGINALLY CALLED BEAVER CREEK) (1798)

Mt. Tabor Church, two miles west of Glasgow, was organized on November 5, 1798, with seven members (three of whom were John Murphy, John Baugh, and William Newell), the presbytery being composed of Elders Alexander Davidson, William Hickman, and Carter Tarrant. Elder Davidson was chosen the first pastor, and John Baugh was appointed to hold meetings in the absence of the pastor. Elder Davidson was followed by Elders Carter Tarrant for about one year, and then Jacob Locke, who served for 38 years.

BLUE SPRING (1799)

Blue Spring Church was organized in 1799 in what is now Metcalfe County (but at the time it was in Barren County). The first pastor was Elder Elijah Summers, who served in that capacity until 1806. Elder William Ratliff then served, until 1814. Elder Daniel Shirley served from 1814 until his death in 1823. Elder Ralph Petty served from 1823 until the church divided over the modern mission system, in 1844. The majority of the church opposed the mission system.

MT. ZION

MT. PLEASANT (1804)

Mt. Pleasant Church was constituted in 1804. One of its early members was John Conlee, who was raised up in South Carolina. He migrated to Tennessee as a young man and was in the constitution of Little Beaver Creek Church, later known as Richland Creek Church, in the Holston Association.

CONCORD (ORIGINALLY CALLED TRACE CREEK)

Concord Church was gathered about 1800, and united with the Green River Association in 1801, the messengers being Cornelius Duease, James Haynes, and John Davidson, who reported 45 members. The constitution actually occurred in about November 1801.

DOUGHTY'S CREEK

Doughty's Creek Church, near the northeast corner of Warren County, was organized in about 1803 and united with the Green River Association that year.

SKAGG'S CREEK (POPLAR LOG)

Skagg's Creek Church was organized in July 1806, and the following members' names appear with the covenant: Jacob Wilson, William Jones, William Pope, Joshua Welborn, Samuel Welborn, Gideon Welborn, William Escue, Jacob Smith, James Welborn, Moses Peden, James Gillaland, Mary Jones, Christian Pope, Rachel Welborn, Ruth Wilson, Elizabeth Roberts, Mary Gillaland, Nancy Smith, Lydia McCurry, Isabel Welborn, Martha Peden, Alice Gillaland, Margaret Welborn, Sarah Welborn, and Sarah Wilson. Elders and brethren, Robert Stockton, William Bishop, Alexander Thomas, Jacob Lock, John Murphy, and Henry Haley were among those who composed the presbytery.

BETHEL

Bethel Church was organized in on the fourth Saturday in July, 1801, with seven members, viz., Harden Williams, John Green, Rhoderic Roulings, John McMahan, John King, Martha McMahan, and Ann Rotton. The presbytery included Elder Robert Stockton, and other brethren from Dripping Spring Church.

MT. PISGAH

Mt. Pisgah Church was organized at a meeting house near John Warder's, by members dismissed for that purpose from Dripping Spring Church in April 1809, viz., John and Ann Warder, Joseph and Esther Warder, Clement and Elizabeth Hitch, Joseph Warder, Sarah Bowles, John and Elizabeth Bowles, Sibella Longdon, William Warder, Walter and Polly Warder, Sarah and Polly Maddox, Nancy Settle, Jack (a servant), Baptist (a servant).

MT. ZION

PLEASANT HILL

DOVER (1810)

Dover Church was organized on November 8, 1810, by Elders Jacob Locke, Warren Cash, and Zachariah Emerson. There were thirteen charter members, viz., John Gearls, James Leavel, James Glazebrook, John Clark, Thomas Winn, Sarah Gearls, Polly Gearls, Sarah Grubs, Elizabeth White, Sallie Montague, Nancy Mitchell, Anna Winn, and a colored man named Toby. Elder Jacob Locke was called as pastor.

GLASGOW

Glasgow Church was organized January 10th, 1818, with seven charter members, viz., William Warder, M. W. Hall, W. Logan, Sally Logan, G. W. Trabue, J. Grinstead, and Mary Bough, all of whom were dismissed from Mt. Tabor for this purpose. Elder Jacob Locke was moderator of the presbytery. Elder William Warder was the first pastor.
