CHURCH:

COMANCHE

Elder Andrew J. Norton wrote that he made a trip to Comache, Iowa, in the 1850's to organize a church there. No other information has been found.

CLINTON

The Clinton Church was organized in about 1881 or 1882, by seven charter members, all black (Negro) brethren, including Elder Robert Smith, who lived in that city. The charter members were all dismissed by letter from the Providence Church, near Lena, in Stephenson County, Illinois, which was a member of the First Northwestern Association (composed of churches in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, which were primarily white brethren). Elder Robert Smith (son of the late Elder Henry Smith, who was a noted preacher in his day, although he could not read or write) served the church as pastor until his death in January 1892. The church may have ceased to exist soon thereafter.

SURNAMES OF MEMBERS:

Parrem, Smith (very incomplete list due to loss of records).
