Revised church history for the Mt. Salem Primitive Baptist Church near London, Kentucky, reads:"Constituted 1876 at Phelps school. 1900: Clerk is Sam Parman. Elder John Hinkle was a Primitive Baptist Minister for 56 years, at one time circuit rider serving four churches, Mt Salem and Pilgrims Rest in Bush, Laurel County, and Liberty and another church on Bear/Bar Branch/Creek in Clay County.
