CHURCHES:

GUTHRIE'S CREEK (BEDFORD)(1818)

Guthrie's Creek Church was organized pursuant to a meeting held on July 11, 1818, by members, viz., David White, Lucy White, John Kindred, Drusilla Kindred, Jeremiah Mathas, Florence Mathas, Elcy Newkirk and Elizabeth Core. These members called for a presbytery, which met on the first Saturday in August 1818, to constitute them into a church. The presbytery was composed of Elder A. Stark, moderator, J. Mathas, clerk, and others. Guthrie's Creek Church first united with the Blue River Association, and then was dismissed to help organize the White River Association in 1821. Names of pastors who are known, included Elder Stark, Bro. Tyre Harris, Elders Jeremiah Wilson, John Kindred, Ambrose Carlton, Eld. Mahuron, Walter Owens, R. Hicks, J. Noblet, J. W. Evans, T. N. Robertson, J. Cole, Levi Mitchell, Elkana Allen, Gideon Potter, Stephen S. Crabb, J. T. Hanna, J. H. Oliphant, F. M. Mattox, Levi T. Buchanan, W. A. Chastain, M. G. Mitchell, J. M. Thompson, P. T. Oliphant, W. A. Malicoat, Rosco Totten, Omer Chastain, Earl Daily, Paul Chastain, and Raymond Adkins. Clerks have included Jeremiah Mathas, William Terrill, J. T. Hanna, Bro. Woodmansee, Andrew Dodds, Stephen Fountain, Thomas Fountain, Samuel Davis, Gideon Potter, James Black, Willis Mitchell, Bessie Crabb, Effie Chase, and Edith Butler.

SALT CREEK (PALESTINE)

Salt Creek Church, about six miles north of Palestine, was organized in 1819. It was first a member of the Blue River Association, and then united with the White River Association.

GILGAL (HELTONVILLE)

Gilgal Church first united with the Blue River Association, and then in October 1821 was the host of the convention which met to organize the White River Association.

Bethabara Church was one of the churches dismissed from the Blue River Association to organize the White River Association in 1821.

INDIAN CREEK (WILLIAMS)

Indian Creek was organized before 1821, and was a charter member of the White River Association. Pastors of this church included: Elders Wesley Short, William Dotson, Gideon Potter, T. Oliphant, T. G. Hall, R. Mitchell, A. Waggoner, James H. Oliphant, Levi T. Buchanan, T. M. Mattox, James Noblet, M. G. Mitchell, William Strickland, James Wolfe, Charles Chastain, H. O. Chastain, W. C. Hancock, Thomas France, Henry Gwaltney, Roscoe Totten, John Sparks, Leslie Wolfe, William Fleener, Raymond Adkins, and Loren Brinson.

Clerks included T. G. Hall, John D. Myers, Elijah Dotson, Henry Inman, Richard Hall, William Inman, C. Harryman, Joseph Inman, F. L. Mitchell, Kenneth Kinder, Sanford Hall, Lois McCoy, Burdena Chastain, Miles Bowman, and Edgar Moore.

MT. GILEAD

Mt. Gilead Church first united with the Blue River Association, and then was dismissed to join the White River Association in 1822.

Spicewood Valley Church was organized in 1822, and became a member of the White River Association.
