ZION'S REST (McALESTER)

Zion's Rest Church, in McAlester, was organized December 29, 1957, with fourteen charter members, viz., E. L. Claborn, Laura Claborn, Arninta Claborn, Cora Loyd, Alvin Brock, Ruth Brock, Maggie Coleman, Cora Stine, Eva Case, Francis Kelley, Mary K. Vandeveer, Carolyn Autry, Sam Grubbs, and Suzie Hill. The presbytery was composed of Elders O. M. Cummings and M. A. Norman, and Deacons George Russell, A. A. Bishop, E. V. Dordell, Delbert Zumualt, Robert Fowler, John Rank, and Bro. Barker.

Pastors who have served the church are Elders M. A. Norman, Alvin Brock, Charles Wortman, Bill Caraway, Howard Storey, and Davie Jones. The church is a member of the First Primitive Baptist Association of Oklahoma.

Directions: take North McAlester Highway 69 Business route to Stonewall Street in old town turn west, go approx. 5 blocks. The Church building is on the corner of Pine and Stonewall.
