Primitive Baptists in the State of South Dakota

CHURCHES:

PRESHO (LYMAN COUNTY)

The first Primitive Baptist church in South Dakota was organized on August 4, 1907, at Presho, in Lyman County, South Dakota, by Elder William T. Branson. Bro. Frank McCormick was also one of the charter members. Elder William T. Branson united with the Council Bluffs Church, at Loveland, Iowa, in 1887. In 1907, he was living at Reliance, South Dakota. He was probably the first Old School Baptist minister to preach in this state.

A letter dated February 1890 appeared in the Messenger of Peace from Bro. A. B. & Sis. Serena Vrooman, who had formerly been members of the Millville Church, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois, but were now living at Sturgis, South Dakota.
