Thomas and Sarah Bush Johnston Lincoln

Their Religious Affiliations After Coming to Coles County, Illinois

The fact that Thomas Lincoln is buried at the Gordon Cemetery, very close to Elder Daniel Barham (whom they may have known in Kentucky), caused us to think that this cemetery may have originally been the site of a Primitive Baptist Church. We also found, while doing research, that Elder Stanley B. Walker was their pastor after they came to Coles County, Illinois, from southern Indiana. There were several Primitive Baptist Churches close to them, at that time, which were organized by Elder Daniel Barham, previous to the arrival of the Lincoln family. We are presently doing research to see what we can find on Elder S. B. Walker, the churches he served, etc.
