PROVIDENCE (1833)

MT. ZION (LAKE BUTLER)(1847)

Mt. Zion Church was constituted February 20, 1847. Services had been held previous to this as an rm of Black Creek Church, as early as 1844. The church is known in the community as Swift Creek Church, its location being near the banks of that creek. The presbytery was comnposed of Elders Cornelius Buey, Elias Knight, and Sham Peacock. The charter members were Sarah Driggers, Emily Driggers, Penny Driggers, Jonas Driggers, John Wester, and William Driggers. The first pastor was Elder Cornelius Buey. He was followed by Elders John Peacock (1849), Elias Knight (1852), John Markey (1853), J. Harvey (1855), R. J. Groover (18810, J. R. Dukes (1903), W. R. Rhoden (1919), W. S. Brannen, Tom Griffin (1952), Johnny McCall (1960), O. M. Yarbrough (1962 & 1972), G. D. Fish (1969), Herman Jordan (1975), and Harry Brooker (1981). This church was a member of the Suwannee Association from its constitution until 1972.

LITTLE SPRINGS (WORTHINGTON SPRINGS/GAINESVILLE)

Little Spring Church is located in the community of Worthington Springs, between Lake Butler and Gainesville.
